So we were musing about the selection of Janet Jackson as a halftime performer, wondering whether she was going to try to make some sort of comeback, whether thered be new album coming out soon.

Well, shes certainly back in the public eye.

Somehow we all ended up cheering for Carolina, in this, the battle of the great unknowns, since any team we could be excited about was eliminated in a heart-wrenching game weeks ago. Nobody in the Midwest gives a rip about either team, and were pretty sure Carolina isnt a state, city or region, so were doubly dubious.

We knew the Patriots would win, but one look at that smarmy GM, and we couldnt take it. But more important, were all Bears fans here, so were far more comfortable pulling for the underdog, even if Ted Washingtons a Patriot now.

By god, those Panthers had style. They were a joy to watch.

I wish theyd pulled it off, if only to see whether their Ted Kennedy-esque owner would crack a smile.

We were disappointed, shouting at the television, irritating the Fuzzman with our girlish shrieks, but then we had apple custard pie, and all was well again.
