Heres the thing. Seven people burned to death while plummeting to the earth from a height of 40 miles above the surface of the planet. I dont know about you, but I think thats a pretty wretched way to go. Forget debating requirements for herodom and the merits of the space program.

Then theres the fact that pieces of the spacecraft and pieces of the bodies were spread over several statesin peoples yards, in the parking lot of the local hardware store, etc. Two children discovered the remains of one crew member.

Of all the projects on board, there was one designed by students at a high school in New Jersey. The students corresponded with the astronauts and had been monitoring feedback online during the flight.

Thats just one experiment.

There are more reasons, but you should be getting my point.

It wasnt just seven anonymous people. It wasnt just some crazy thing they decided to do on their own. It was an amazing activity funded by a government that a majority of us theoretically put into power.
